The Green Pledge - Pilot

The Green Pledge is a tool aimed at encouraging and supporting firms in the Irish funds industry to take steps to reduce carbon emissions and take action on sustainability issues that affect them.

The Green Team Network has completed a pilot of the Green Pledge with 12 funds industry firms. This included a mix of service providers, law firms, accounting firms and asset management / management companies. Some of key findings of this pilot are highlighted below.


17% of the pilot firms achieved Green level 4 which is the second highest Green Pledge rating you can receive. No firm received the highest rating of Green level 5. The majority of pilot firms received a Green level 3 – 75%. 8% of firms were rated Green level 2. No pilot firm received the lowest rating of Green level 1.



Highlights


  • Paper – 82% reduced the number of available printers in the office. 67% are educating employees on digital alternatives to using paper and adopting a sustainable paper policy to continue the paperless journey afforded over the last 2 years.

  • Carbon footprint - 83% have taken action to measure and record carbon footprint, 17% of firms have set targets to reduce carbon footprint by 100% by 2030 and the majority are committed to a target of 50% by 2030.

  • Travel - 67% are committed to providing sustainable transport links from office to public transport where not available. 75% are also committed to continuing to reduce business travel through virtual events and video conferencing. 84% are committed to minimizing air travel and offsetting where required.

  • Waste Management - This was the category where firms had completed the most pledges with 73% of pledges completed in this category.
